Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve
Nature, Hill Head
Titchfield Haven is a 145-hectare nature reserve managed by Hampshire County Council, occupying the former estuary of the River Meon. The reserve encompasses reedbeds, freshwater scrapes, wet meadows, woodland and coastal habitats, supporting over 200 recorded bird species. A visitor centre near the entrance on Cliff Road provides information, permits and a small shop. A network of well-maintained hides allows visitors to observe birdlife at close range without causing disturbance. The reserve is particularly noted for breeding warblers in summer and large numbers of wintering wildfowl and waders. Bittern, marsh harrier and bearded tit are among the highlight species. Access to the reserve requires a day permit or annual membership. The reserve also runs educational programmes and guided walks throughout the year.
