Meon Shore Beach

Beach, Hill Head

Meon Shore beach is a wide shingle beach at the western end of the Hill Head coastline, near the mouth of the River Meon. The beach is backed by low clay cliffs and faces south across the Solent towards the Isle of Wight. At low tide, mudflats are exposed, particularly near the river mouth, attracting wading birds and making this a popular spot for birdwatching. The beach is also used by sea anglers fishing for bass, flounder and other species. A car park with an honesty box provides access, and the Solent Way coastal path runs along the back of the beach. Meon Shore has a wild, unspoilt character and is popular with dog walkers. Fossil hunters occasionally find specimens in the clay cliff exposures.
