Hill Head Seafront
A quiet shingle beach with Solent views, a small harbour and a clifftop path popular with walkers.
Hill Head seafront is a long stretch of shingle and sand beach facing the Solent, running roughly from the harbour in the east to Meon Shore in the west. The beach is backed by a low clay cliff that has been subject to erosion over the decades, with various defences installed to slow the process. At the eastern end, a small harbour shelters a handful of fishing boats and dinghies, and the Hill Head Sailing Club operates from its clubhouse nearby. The seafront path forms part of the Solent Way long-distance trail and is popular with walkers, dog owners and birdwatchers throughout the year. On clear days there are unbroken views across to the Isle of Wight, with the Needles visible to the west and Ryde to the east. The Osborne View pub and restaurant sits in a prominent position overlooking the water, and there are benches along the clifftop path. During summer months the beach sees families swimming and paddling, though the shingle gives way to mudflats at low tide in places. The seafront has a quiet, unhurried character quite different from the busier resort beaches further east along the Hampshire coast. Parking is available at the end of Cliff Road and along Hill Head Road near the harbour.
